Reach
back, reach all the way back to your very first memories of Santa Claus, Rudolph
the red-nosed reindeer and Santas eight other tiny reindeer. Just what is
it that you remember the most about the Beauty & Magic
of Christmas? For me it was the excitement of trying to stay awake
on Christmas Eve to see if I could get a peek at Santa Claus putting the presents
underneath the Christmas tree. I always remember lying in my bed and trying to listen ever
so closely for the sounds of Santas Reindeer bells jingling as he
approached our house on the night before Christmas.
However, as hard as I tried to stay awake, eventually my eyelids became so heavy that I
would slip quietly into sleep with the excitement and anticipation of all those
magical thoughts passing from reality into my dreams through the powerful gift of the
human mind my imagination.
And then I remember how, early one morning on Christmas Day just before sunrise,
I was being rousted out of my magical dreams to calls from Mom and Pop to
...Hurry up sleepy head! Santa is here! Hurry up! Hes still putting the
presents under the tree, maybe you can catch a glimpse of him! Now remember to mind
your manners by saying thank you to Santa Claus!
Year after year, as hard as my sisters, little brother and I would try, we were
always just seconds too late to catch a glimpse of Santa Claus! I remember ever so
clearly, running, crawling, slipping and sliding as fast as we could in our cloth
slippers down the long hallway with its cold hardwood floors, trying to catch up
with Santa.
Every now and then we came ever so close to catching him, though just never close enough!
We did, however, hear the jingling of Santas reindeer bells as he flew
off, heading for the next house down the road.
As the years went on and we grew older, we began to see Santa Claus at Macys or
at Sears & Roebucks. A couple of times he even came to our school!
As young as I was, I began to notice that Santa just did not look quite the same
each time I saw him, which was very confusing to me. Thus my siblings and I decided that
the question had to be answered! So we sought out the most intelligent people
in our young lives Mom and Pop!
Of course, as usual, they had the answer! Those were just Santas helpers doing some
of his work leading up to Christmas. That way Santa could be at his Snow Castle with all
of the Elves, in his workshop, making sure all of those fantastic toys were made just
right for all of the good boys and girls.
However Mom and Pop did say that sometimes, when little boys and girls were exceptionally
good all year long, Santa Claus just might give them a personal call on the
telephone.
That year we all made a pact to be on our very best behavior! Each and
every one of us were exceptionally good as we waited and waited as Christmas drew
near! Every day the anticipation had been growing and growing to the point I thought
I was going to explode. Then one night that all-important phone call finally came for my
brother, sisters and me. And wow, what a call!
Thus the Beauty & Magic of Christmas began!
Every year after that very first phone call the Beauty & Magic grew by leaps and
bounds, mainly because of all the stories which Santa would tell us
during his phone calls. I remember just how much in awe I was during these calls and
how I often would close my eyes while Santa was weaving his stories to us.
Through the power of my imagination, I could see him ever so clearly,
along with all of his reindeer, elves, and especially his
Elfin's workshop in Santas Snow Castle at the North Pole!
